Steam

This doc covers some useful information that you could use when releasing your game on the Steam Store...

For a game to do well on the Steam eco system you’d need approximately 7000-10,000 wish lists before release. This will help improve your visibility on the Steam Store when you release the game itself.

Marketing will play a key role in getting those wish lists before (and after) release. Adding the Steam page and hoping that people will find it on their own will not work.

Your Steam Page

Make sure that your Steam page is as polished as possible with all the artwork you need and a trailer that hooks in players to buy your game.

The trailer is most likely the main asset to grab players attention on your Steam page, so make sure to have one. It needs to grab a player in as short a time as possible, as many will click away if they aren't interested as soon as they click on the trailer.

Consider how you buy games, what grabs you when you are looking through the Steam page either through browsing, or when you get linked directly to a game. Ask other gamers, friends, family or your community (if you have one), what grabs their attention or what they feel is a good example of a Steam page.

Make sure to look through the Steam store at other games in your genre and/or style, and see which ones jump out at you. Use their approach to inspire your own page.

Look through the steam store in general to see what others are doing to grab peoples attention, use that as inspiration as well (as long as it applies to your genre and style of game).
